As I browse the channel, news, internet, and everybody was talking about Corazon Aquino. Yes, the Philippines former President. Who build the democracy in this country that the whole world was talking about. Our nation lost a mother. The whole country mourns for her death. There were several messages for Tita Cory that I have read in the internet, specifically in Facebook. One of those is: “Cory never died, for she’ll be living eternally in the hearts of every Filipino people. May you rest in peace.” and my favorite was: “Our nation lost a mother, and now were left with a wicked stepmother.” People worte this under the age of 15-16 yrs old. Which means people at my age were now aware of what is happening in our country. The Aquino family lost their mother. But the country has lost their mother too. My Papa (grandfather) search for his old books when I ask my Mom to buy different set of newspaper for Cory’s interment will be a history. My Papa gave me a book that he bought that at the year 1986. My Tito Jemar was not yet born at that time. And still my Papa wants to look for a certain book that he wants me to read. The book that he found was already in my possession and asks me to keep it and take care of it.
Different memorabilias of year 1986 comes alive at this point of time. My classmates and schoolmates tie yellow ribbon on their pen and bags. Services and private vehicles around here in Fairview have yellow ribbon as a sign of honor for the late president. My younger sister is a grade three student and only 8 yes old also wants to have honor with Cory. A while ago at my school; every Friday we have a flag retreat; and a while ago instead of singing “Pilipinas Kong Mahal” we sang “Bayan Ko” also in honor of her.
One thing I can say, she did not passed away in the hearts of every Filipino people! Mabuhay ka Cory! You may rest in peace….
